Can you use dark tiles in a small bathroom?

If you were a fly on the wall on a busy day in our showroom, you are guaranteed to hear couples having the long standing debate about which tiles would work best in their bathroom.  It wouldn’t be long before the comment is made that a dark tile can’t be used because there isn’t enough natural light or it will make the room like a lair. Well if a lair is good enough for Batman it should be good enough for you. There are so many misconceptions of using dark colours in a room.

We say forget all that and go bold.

A dark tile in a bathroom with the right lighting exudes luxury, and gives a feeling of  comfort. If you go to a hotel designed by top interior designers such as the Dakota Delux designed by Amanda Rosa Interiors they have used dark colours throughout the hotel with correctly used lighting setting the mood. Take a look at the case study of the project here. If you live close to one it is worth going and having a look for yourself. The moment you walk in it feels of luxury and wraps you in a warm feeling. This is a great reason not to be fearful of using dark colours in a bathroom. Some of the my favourite bathrooms my team has created are using dark tiles and the top display in our showroom that gets the most compliments in the one that is a dark slate. You can take a look at some of our finished projects here and see for yourself

Create a moody atmosphere.

Opting for all over dark tiles creates a moody atmosphere and if you like you can always soften it with a lighter feature wall to break the room up. Another great idea is using bolder colours in the accessories that will really stand out against the dark tiles. Such as going for lime green or a bright purple. If you’re still not convinced that using dark tiles is the right choice or whether it will fit within your bathroom. You can always use our design service and one of our team can create a 3D design of your bathroom so you can see in reality what the room will look like.

So if you’re looking for a room with a little bit of bite. Go for darker moody colours with high-end contemporary furniture and bathroom suites with statement lighting will give you the luxurious bathroom you have  been dreaming of.
